Hunt for golden keys to the final starts on future King’s first birthday
Marking Prince George’s first birthday, a nationwide treasure hunt has been launched today [Tuesday 22 July] to find a £10,000 King’s Ransom.
Leading pub retailer and brewer Greene King is hosting a combined online and real-life treasure hunt over the summer, with a hidden prize of £10,000 waiting at the end for one lucky winner.
To mark the launch of the company’s biggest ever giveaway, four famous ‘Kings’ took in the sights in London yesterday and posed for their very first selfies, causing a stir in the streets and on social media.
Beginning today at www.the-kings-ransom.co.uk, the hunt for the King’s Ransom starts with an online trail to narrow down the area of the UK where the loot has been hidden. Clues to eliminate areas will be released every few days until just one area remains, with golden keys to the final awarded to 12 of the hunters who have cracked all the clues.
Golden key holders will be invited to take part in the grand finale, a real-life treasure hunt, with one walking away with the £10,000.
Mark Blythman from Greene King said: “We know our customers enjoy spending time in our pubs. We wanted to take their enjoyment to the next level over the summer by way of an old-fashioned treasure hunt with a modern, online twist.
“Some of the clues are trickier than others but with a bit of thought they can be cracked. I wish each and every competitor good luck on their quest to unlock a golden key to our big finale.”
Finalists will be able to bring up to three friends or family with them to help at the final stage of the King’s Ransom, which will be an on-foot treasure hunt taking place on Sunday 14 September, somewhere in the UK.
Hints and tips for treasure hunters will be shared on Twitter @kingsransom2014 #kingsransom and on Facebook www.facebook.com/kingsransom2014, and all participants will need to register on the website to take part. There will also be spot prizes up for grabs along the way.
King Henry VIII, Richard I, Elvis Presley and a Pearly King take in the sights during a visit to London yesterday and take their very first selfie.
