How to spread the word about your competition

I know that most of you who are reading this love to ENTER competitions, but some of you, especially those with a blog, love to RUN them too.

And isn't it disheartening when you are running a competition and hardly anybody enters? You can draw attention to it by tweeting about it and posting on Facebook, and a tip here is to use hashtags like #win , #prize, #competition and #giveaway so that people who are not your followers (yet!) but are actively searching for competitions to enter will spot it. If you are using an app like Rafflecopter or Gleam that includes options for Facebook sharing and tweeting, these will also help to attract people who may not have heard about the competition.

But the best way to reach people is to use the sites and forums used by compers, often on a daily basis. This very blog is one of them - you can get your competition listed here by following the link at the top of the page.

The Money Saving Expert forum is a very popular place to find competitions, but anyone running one of their own isn't allowed to list it, it has to be listed by somebody else. Simply asking on Facebook or Twitter if any MSE-er will list it is almost certain to find you an obliging member. There are lots of other  comping forums too, some public and some private, so a similar request for "any comping forum" may well help.

I'm always happy to list competitions, with a few exceptions - for details see the "How to get your competition listed" page.

But there are lots more places you can either post the details of your competition or submit them to be posted by the site. Here are some to try

Loquax - you now need to register with the forum in order to post, but they are happy for you to post your own competitions

The Prize Finder

Competitors Companion (no relation to the magazine that used to go by the same name!) - the "Add your competition" link is at the bottom of the page

UK Competitions

UK Wins

Competition  Hunter

Also there are now several blogs that have competition links, where you can submit to a  page that is updated weekly or monthly. Some you could consider are

Super Lucky  - you will find the current link up pages listed towards the top of the right hand column

Emma in Bromley  - Emma has taken over Prizes for Parents from my daughter Emma who used to host it at Mellow Mummy. You'll find the current link-up page by going to the competitions tab and looking for the Prizes for Parents link.

Julie's Notebook - details of how to join in are in the #WinningWeekends tab, and you'll need to look through recent posts to find the current link up page.

I'm sure there are many more sites and blogs out there that list competitions, but I hope that these will help you to spread the word about your competition or, if you are simply looking for more competitions to enter, help you to find something new.

  1. Thanks for mentioning the SuperLucky linky Jane! Is it me, or do there seem to be more competitions than ever around these days? I know Steve lists a couple of hundred daily on the PrizeFinder, but my Facebook and Twitter feeds are full of them too... And occasionally I can STILL find comps on Pinterest or blogs with only one or two entries. People have gone competition crazy!

    1. I agree, there are more than ever and appearing in more places than ever. I'm sure that it wouldn't be possible to enter them all if you spent 24 hours a day comping! I can see why though, not only is it a relatively cheap form of advertising but it gets people directly involved with the promoter (as long as they've not used a pay-to-enter service!)

  2. Thank you for including me in this post. Its easy to find the latest #WinningWeekends posts, click on the winning weekends page (linked at the top of my blog) then clicking on ANY of the links named "#WinningWeekends" will sort it by the winning weekends category with the newest at the top. It's live from 6am Friday's until few mins before midnight every Monday.
